I first started with a wallpaper design and transferred it to the 10” X 10” X 1.75" gesso deep cradle board. Then I painted it in bright colors, glazed it in a lighter translucent color, and finished it by taping off the window, and glazing it in an even lighter color.
Next I drew and cut out the flower and stem from a gesso board that was ¼” deep. After sanding the edges, I painted the flower from life. Then I glued the flower to the background. I painted the leaves directly on the background. I varnished the flower, stem, and leaves and left the background a with a matt finish. I am experimenting with different finishes to help create space.
My goal was to create several layers of space and opacity. The sides are sanded and painted so it does not need a frame. You can see the beveled edge that acts as part of the frame.
