Kent Watering the Duck
This is a painting of my five year old grandson when he came to visit. The large plastic duck goes outside in the play pool and inside to the bathtub when it is time to take a bath. It sees a lot of action at my house.
In this work I wanted to capture the sunlight on his arms and legs and to get that reflective glow under his chin. The light is shining through his right ear and makes it look almost transparent. The sun is also shining through the play pool and the duck. The bluish background pulls the eye back in space and offsets the warm foreground. Again I had to practice the water coming out of the hose to get it right. The hose itself was a good directional tool and without it makes the composition incomplete.
